Flower Totems

With Flower Totems, I have created a series of luminous, circular forms that serve as sites for quiet reflection. Mounted on stark metal pedestals, these polyethylene orbs emit a shifting spectrum of light, illuminating the hand-rendered botanical drawings I’ve applied to their surfaces. I chose to work with permanent ink and acrylics specifically because they are susceptible to the elements; as rain meets the totems, the drawings begin to fade. This is a deliberate part of the piece,a mirror to the fleeting nature of the bloom and a reminder that our presence in the world is a continuous process of reinvention.

In these “strange times,” I believe we are searching for miracles. By elevating these floral motifs to the status of a totem, an object of collective respect.I am asking the viewer to find the divine in the small and the overlooked. The installation is an invitation to consider how our past actions shape our current landscape. Through this play of light and the inevitable erosion of the ink, I want to spark a dialogue about hope: the idea that even in difficult conditions, beauty is not just something we observe, but something we must actively nurture and protect together.
